Holland Cooper Edinburgh is the first Scottish retail outlet for the luxury British fashion brand, which was established in 2008 by designer Jade Holland Cooper. Scottish entrepreneur Nadia Cunningham opened the flagship Multrees Walk store in November 2017.
Featuring ready-to-wear collections for men, women and children, including luxury outerwear, tailoring and accessories, as well as the brand’s signature pieces such as the bestselling tweed cape and the double-breasted Mayfair tweed jacket, Holland Cooper continues its tradition of stylish and contemporary tweed wear. Every tweed piece is hand cut and made in the UK in Scottish mills that have been running for 200 years. It is a brand with heritage at its heart.
Perth-based owner Nadia has two young daughters and it was her love of fashion that inspired her to take on the Holland Cooper franchise.
What is your background?
I had been in nursing, but changed direction when I had my daughters in my early 20s. I had always loved beauty and fashion, so did a beauty therapy course and went on to set up my salon, Lia and Olive, in 2013, I opened a second salon, before recently taking on the Holland Cooper franchise as a joint business venture with my fiancé, Murray Alexander
What are you addicted to buying?
Blazers – they give a real tailored fit, which is what I like, it’s a nice flattering shape.
What is the fun part about owning Holland Cooper Edinburgh?
We have so many great jackets, coats and blazers it means that every day I can try something new! But it’s really about being able to help customers find something they love and that makes them feel good about themselves that is great fun.
Who are Holland Cooper’s customers?
I would say anyone from the age of 8 to 80! We cater for all ages and, importantly, for all sizes too. We can size up to a 22, and if we don’t have something, we can have it made bespoke.
Who has great style?
The founder and owner of Holland Cooper Clothing, Jade Holland Cooper has great style. Her style is what inspired me to take on the franchise. Also, my Mum has always had a very classic style and I think she really influenced me growing up.
Any fashion disasters you’d care to share?
When I was 19 and thinking I was the coolest person ever, I used to sing in the operatic society (which possibly shows I wasn’t that cool!) and bought a double white denim suit to wear to an after-show party. I teamed that white denim blazer and white denim bellbottoms with a fuchsia pink top and fuchsia pink shoes – if my 12-year-old daughter could see that, she would be horrified! It was not a good look and I’ve never worn white jeans since!
